Are we going in correct way

Few days back when we were passing against a government office a topic got started in our discussion which took me into my childhood where I was having a friend who was very intelligent but was not having a very good economical background. He had a dream of becoming engineer one day and he was too desperate for his goal. After some time our school got changed and slowly we forget each other. After few years when we met he was doing some diploma to complete his education. After inquiring from some other friend I came to know that he prepared well for the entrance tests and secured a good rank but failed to secure a free seat in a government college and due to his economical condition he left out the idea of becoming an engineer. Although the same kind of seat was allocated to a son of very rich man having a lesser rank due to his caste status which was having a reserved quota. This story of my friend always makes me think about the system of education in India.
The system was never so good and was always in evolving state. But few things makes it worst. Things like reservation, which were meant for the persons not having ability to stand in the society, and nowadays only non-deserving people are getting benefited by this system and the deserving people like my friend have to drop out the idea of education. Today education becomes a business, not only a business but one of the most profitable businesses and nobody wants to ruin their business by talking against reservation. Fee for some the institutes remains always very high, they say fee for government institutions is very low but nobody questions on IIMs on having tuition fee in lacs while they got very much government aid for them. The fee for IIM made a middle class person to plan in advance for the fee or opt for an education loan. If this is the situation for government aided institutions then there is no one going to control private colleges in terms of fees. We may be asked to deposit fee in lacs for admission in nursery class for our children in case fees gonna increase with same proportion.

The another reason is very much know to us, everybody talks on this but yet no any action has been taken on this because of the political benefits parties are getting form it and the thing is ‘caste-wise reservation.’ In today’s environment in India it is very easy for a non-deserving candidate form a reserved category to fit into anything which belongs to public sector. This was also one of the reasons for brain-drain in India. As talent was not getting right value here so they tried to their luck outside. This caste-wise system was introduced to support those who were not able to compete with society. I don’t know what the law makers were thinking while making this law because they might be having other options like BPL families to categories people but they choose something which was chosen by British to divide people of India. This reservation system has made people of India to fight against each other which we have seen few years ago during protests by gurjar people.
If the system was built on something which was helping only needed one then it would be best. One of the great attempts made by government to change the system was reservation for BPL people. But due to lack of monitoring or it can be said due to corruption in the whole system again the benefit was taken up by non-deserving people. Today people from reserved categories consider reservation as there one of the fundamental rights and when somebody talks to them about revoking the right for reservation they will just starting talking about their caste and forget about whole country. This is the thing which makes those politicians rule us and if any good politician wants to change the rule, fear of losing in next election does not let him to do so. Now only option left is for us is to wake up from sleep and support the change needed. We have to start thinking for all instead of thinking for us only so that no one has to make such compromises as my friend made.

  2. Yes this is true right now, but this free quota was in effect before ~20 yrs for minor cast to boost up education in their community.
I am agree to only 50%.. because still there are low percentage of education in minor cast but what happens that they don't use benefit of free quota, not in full extent, and other looses the seat.
We have to also keep in mind that population of India is more that 125 crore. So it would not be possible for everyone to get a seat in their interested field.

Smart people get their way in anyway if they don't then they are not smart :) .

  3. Well my dear friend...I respect your feelings for your friend. I can understand your agony to the system of reservation in Indian Education,I agree and realize that the original idea has been disrupted by the heartless politians of the country just for the sake of securing their chairs they are dividing the whole society. But the roots of reservation was really influeced by the deploable conditions of the lower srtata of the society and the monopolistic expliotative attitude of the upper caste people...if you will go in the interior villages of Hindi Heartland of the country you can still find that lower caste people are beimg exploited by the upper castes.I ask you how many lower caste people have you been found on various repsctable post of the Indian government in past days......even if you go to IAS the most respectable and the difficult examination in India ....if one belonged to lower caste strata you would not get the desirable position despite of your calibre....only just because of the authoritative upper caste people. So, the idea of reservation was brought to secure the degraded life of these people and to bring the inclusive development of all the sections of society, but yes the beauty of the original idea has been raped by the meager vote banking of the politicians and I must say that we the educated people are helping them to do so....by showing our negligence towards social responsibilities as being a citizen of the nation. We are just playing the blame game ...and doing nothing concrete in the direction. So, I would say that there is a need to awaken from the deep sleep of negligence to fulfill our duties rather claiming all the time for the rights................!!!!!
Wish you all the very best to moving ahead in the direction..........:)
